President's Message
Dr Muthusamy Karthikeyan, GeoSS President
Welcome to the website of The Geotechnical Society of Singapore (GeoSS).
GeoSS was established in 2008 with the mission to advance and promote geotechnical engineering in Singapore. GeoSS is a member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the Association of Geotechnical Societies in Southeast Asia (AGSSEA). The Young Geotechnical Sub-Committee has also been set within GeoSS (SYGeoSS) to promote geotechnical professions among the young and to nurture the future leaders in geotechnical engineering.
Over the past years, GeoSS has developed into one of the major professional societies in Singapore with a strong membership of over 300. GeoSS has become the key source of geotechnical engineering information and knowledge for the greater engineering community, associated key stakeholders, and the general public.
GeoSS has organized international conferences, regular evening seminars, short courses and site visits. We also work closely with government agencies to contribute toward the developments of standards and design guides. Our GeoSS members have also played active roles in the international geotechnical communities through ISSMGE.
Our GeoSS members have learnt new skills to adapt to the virtual environment in the current pandemic. Improvising and constantly learning will propel us to achieve new endeavours.
I am pleased to be the President of GeoSS for the 2022-2023 term. Together with Vice President Associate Professor Darren Chian, Secretary Er. Michelle Lew, Treasurer Er. Timothy Tang, and 7 other strong committee members, we aim to bring GeoSS to new heights and maintain the prosperity of the GeoSS family.
